to the desk. >>> we begin with breaking news from oakland. police are investigating three homicides. there are two different scenes. one in oakland. one in west oakland and one in east oakland. ktvu alex savidge is live on walnut street. good morning, alex. >> reporter: good morning. the sergeant here on scene told me in this case a woman was found stabbed to death early this morning. officers are still out here on scene. you can see a couple patrol cars parked out here on this street. the stabbing happened inside this apartment building in a second floor unit. we'll show you video we shot a short time ago. this is all taking place in the 5800 block of walnut. neighbors called 911 just about two hours ago. around 2:30 this morning. when officers aryed here on scene they went inside this unit and found this woman with multiple stab wounds and she died here on scene. a sergeant told me a short time ago police do have a possible suspect. a man in custody at this point. they are not saying much about who this person is. and the motive at least at this point according to the sergeant rem
tonight to protect funding for the job center. funding for the west oakland job resource center has come into question amid controversy over plans to put up aloom nateed billboards -- illuminated billboards. those boards were to bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars annually to help with the center. >>> you can expect periodic lane closures near the toll plaza on the bay bridge from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. over the next six months. officials say the lane closures are needed to work on the toll plaza including paving and replacing some of the crashed cushions. the east span is due to even to traffic in -- to open to traffic in december. >>> let's check in with sal. welcome back. >> thank you. >> how is traffic? >> well, we're had a -- well, we've had a couple of stalled vehicles. the metering lights will get switched on low after there's a few stalled vehicles. a 30-minute delay if you are waiting to get on the bridge itself. another 20 minutes or maybe 10 to 15 on the span itself. we're looking at the better part of an hour getting into san francisco unless you are in the carpool lan

in oakland is now facing a vehicular manslaughter charge. the chp says it pulled over a bmw on 90th avenue near bancroft on thursday night. but the driver took off as officers approached the car. a short distance away it collided with another car, killing a 21-year-old woman. the suspect ran but officers caught him. >> he did not appear to be very much under the influence. he was able to exit his vehicle and flee the scene, so that would show that he is coherent. >> police are still looking for a passenger who was in the suspect's car. >>> three more murders brings oakland's homicide rate to its highest level since 2006. two men were shot to death early yesterday morning. an hour and a half later, a woman was stabbed to death. police did make an arrest in her murder, but not the others. the killings were in an area of west oakland known for gang activity. the city's homicide rate now stands at 130. that is up from last year's total of 110. >>> a sixth person faces murder and other charges in the case of a man and woman found bound and gagged on a san francisco street. the authorities say

step is admitting you have a problem. and tonight oakland city leaders have done exactly that. three -- three months ago they acknowledged there is no plan to reduce crime now they admit they need one and recruited a name you might recognize to make it happen. da lin reports on the grim 2012. >> reporter: it's been tough in the city of oakland. they acknowledge crime and they have made two major announcements this afternoon. one is that they will hire los angeles former -- former los angeles police chief bill bratton as a paid consultant and, two of the city of oakland going back to neighborhood policing. they hope those two ideas, those two plans will cut down on crime in oakland. both oakland mayor jean quan and police chief howard jordan say crime in oakland is out of control. 127 homicides so of this year the highest since 2007. 1 -- 127 homicide so far this year the highest since 2007. >> we agree with the community i see that the crime rate is absolutely unacceptable. >> we have to do something. we have done a lot last year, we have to try something different. >> reporter: they
